Yellow underarm stains on your white clothing is the pits!
Rather than throw out that nice business shirt or white top, we’re going to show you how to first prevent the stain from happening and secondly show you how to get rid of the stain altogether.
How to prevent yellowing / staining of your clothes
Dr. Dray from the American Academy of Dermatology explains that the yellow discoloration is actually due to the combination of your sweat and your deodorant. In fact, if your antiperspirant contains “Aluminum”, the mixture of sweat proteins and aluminum is what’s causing the residue.
So how can you prevent this? Answer: Simply put your deodorant on at night.
AT NIGHT??? — Yes actually, because when you put it on at night, the antiperspirant has the capability of doing what its supposed to do — plug up your sweat ducts. If you put your deodorant on immediately after you shower in the morning, the moisture and sweat will simply mix with the aluminum in the antiperspirant and bleed into your clothing; thus the yellow pit stains.
How to actually get rid of those nasty yellow armpit stains
After much research and self trial applications, we’ve found that simply using OxiClean gets the job done. Don’t waste your time rubbing toothpaste, or using white spray paint to fix the issue.
How to to get rid of the yellow stains:
- Check the label to make sure you follow the material care instructions.
- OxiClean recommends pre-soaking your clothes in warm water mixed with the powder for 6 hours. Someone from our team took a brush and mixed the powder with warm water directly on the clothing and said it seemed to work also.
- Throw the clothing in the washer as normal and add detergent.
Your top should now be stain free!
